The public forest (Staatsforst) Rheurdt / Littard is a forest that for large parts uses natural forest management, e.g. old and fallen trees are not removed. This is a perfect habitat for different species of woodpeckers, such as Pica-pau-preto, Pica-pau-malhado-grande, Pica-pau-mediano, Pica-pau-malhado-pequeno and Pica-pau-verde. Also many other forest birds sing and breed here. There are several ponds around the forest, which show some waterfowl and also Guarda-rios-comum.

You can park the car park in the southern part of the forest. There are several routes possible through the forest. The 6 km circular route on the map is just a suggestion. Many routes get really muddy during wet weather, especially in winter. In most areas of the forest you have to stay on the paths to protect nature.
