The Sandgrube Zapfendorf area offers a variety of habitats with a range of different bird species. First, you have lakes and ponds in the partly active sandpit, where you can find species such as Corvo-marinho-pigmeu, Zarro-negrinha and Borrelho-pequeno-de-coleira. It has reed areas which host birds such as the Pisco-de-peito-azul, Escrevedeira-dos-caniços and rouxinol-dos-caniços. The aluvial zones of the river Main nearby offer species such as Papa-figos, Cuco-canoro, Papa-moscas-cinzento and Felosa-musical. The surrounding fields are the home of birds like Laverca and Perdiz-cinzenta.

Sandgrube Zapfendorf is located directly north of the town of Zapfendorf. You can of course get there by car and leave it right next to the "Kleingartensiedlung" or south of the ponds. Press P on the map for directions to a parking.
Getting there by public transport is a bit difficult and you have to walk for a bit, e.g. starting at the Zapfendorf trainstation.

You can also visit the "Große Wört" Southwest of this birding place (marked with a "star" symbol and a few suggested spots). However, you'll have to walk on the street for a bit to get to the actual trail.
