The Lanstroper See nature reserve covers 74.2 hectares. The eight hectare lake is five meters deep at its deepest point and is bordered by a narrow belt of reeds. Another part of the nature reserve is the forest Hienbergwald west of the lake. This deciduous forest, together with the lake provides a habitat and breeding area for numerous species of birds. Among the birds you can see in the area are Guincho-comum, Ganso-comum, Papa-amoras-comum, rouxinol-dos-caniços, Cisne-vulgar, Zarro-negrinha, Mergulhão-pequeno, Frango-d'água and Escrevedeira-dos-caniços.

Parking is available in the adjacent residential area. Click on the P in the map to get directions. There is a hiking trail along a part of the lake and also through the fields to the Lanstroper Egg. The trail along the lake has some display boards and a viewing platform directly on the water. To do a circular trail (3,5 km) you also have to walk a few parts on roads.
