Descrição
There are several ponds here where many waterfowl can be seen, including Frisada, Piadeira, Marrequinha-comum, Pato-trombeteiro, Zarro-comum, Pato-olho-d'ouro and several others. During autumn migration several different geese can be found here, and sometimes Grou-comum as well. Mergulhão-de-pescoço-ruivo, Mergulhão-de-crista, and Mergulhão-pequeno can often be seen here, and there is a tree in the Inselteich where Corvo-marinho-de-faces-brancas and Garça-real can often be seen sunning themselves. There are four observation towers which provide a clearer view over the lakes.
The ponds are surrounded by considerable reedbeds, which provide a home for Felosa-unicolor and rouxinol-dos-caniços .
The bushes, trees and fields that make up the rest of the area are great for general birding all year round; Picanço-de-dorso-ruivo and many small passerines are always present.
The Karower Teiche are the southern-most part of the larger protected landscape that includes the Moorlinse Buch and Bogenseekette/Lietzengraben areas. This whole territiory combined makes for the richest birding experience within the greater Berlin area.
