The Hauke-Haie-Koog is an important resting and moulting area for many bird species in the Wadden Sea. Every year in spring and autumn when migrating, thousands of geese come to the Hauke-Haien-Koog to rest and moult. Large flocks of Pilrito-comum also use this area as a high water resting place. Alfaiate, terns, and various songbird species such as Escrevedeira-dos-caniços, Chapim-de-bigode and Felosa-dos-juncos use the Koog with its wide reed areas as a breeding area. Tartaranhão-ruivo-dos-pauis, Ganso-comum, Abetouro-comum and various types of ducks also settle here to raise their young. After the breeding season from June to September, large groups of Colhereiro can be observed. Among them are young and adult birds.
