Detention base with an artificial wetland biotope at its east side. A little hotspot for migrating and hibernating waterfowl like Cegonha-preta, Pato-olho-d'ouro, Águia-pesqueira and Mergulhão-pequeno. In former times with top species like Cisne-bravo, Cisne-pequeno, Pato-de-cauda-afilada, Mobêlha-árctica. But can be still good for suprises! Good chances for Guarda-rios-comum and Melro-d'água alongside the river Itz north of the lake.

Best arrival by car with parking lot directly on top of the basin dam. By bus take Line 720 towards Grümpen from Coburg Mainstation via Rödental. Get of at "Froschgrundsee" (see the link below for the time table of the bus).
There`s a way for walking and cycling all around the Froschgrundsee, mostly paved, unpaved at the west side of the lake. The circular walk is about 2,5 km.
