The central heathland is contaminated with munitions remains and is not directly accessible, but a paved footpath leads along to the north, from which the area can be viewed well. Picanço-grande, Cartaxo-comum, Cotovia-pequena and Noitibó da Europa can be regularly observed here. The heathland is surrounded by sparse, partly very damp forest areas, in which, among other birds, Pica-pau-preto and during migration also Grou-comum occur.

The easiest way to park is in the visitor car park at the small airport. Click on the P in the map for directions. From the parking, follow the path south until you come to a barrier and the former guard house. From here you already have an excellent view of the most interesting area (possibly a spotting scope makes sense!), if you follow the hiking trail to the right in a westerly direction, you will come to other good vantage points.
