Alte Elbe is an old arm of the river Elbe near the town of Gerwisch. Good chances to see Águia-rabalva, Águia-pesqueira and Grou-comum. Many waterbirds, especially during migration time (e.g., Garça-branca-grande, Garça-real, Ganso-comum, Ganso-campestre, Pato-trombeteiro, Marrequinha-comum, Marreco, Cisne-bravo, Merganso-pequeno, Merganso-grande, Mergulhão-de-crista, Mergulhão-pequeno, Abibe-comum, Perna-verde-comum, Perna-vermelha-escuro, Combatente). In the adjacent areas Milhafre-real, Milhafre-preto, peneireiro-de-dorso-malhado / peneireiro, Pica-pau-preto, Torcicolo, and very occasionally Abelharuco-comum or Poupa can be seen.
