In a traditional countryside of pastures filled with flowers and woodland, around 900 m high, a wide variety of passerines can be seen relatively easily. Picanço-de-dorso-ruivo , Cotovia-pequena , Cartaxo-comum are everywhere, Rabirruivo-de-testa-branca and Pintarroxo-comum are around the villages, and Chasco-cinzento on stone walls. Some Cartaxo-nortenho can still be found in marshy grassland, and raptors are frequent ( Milhafre-real , Tartaranhão-caçador , Águia-cobreira)
But the main species here are Picanço-grande which tend to be rare nowadays, and Pardal-francês who are nesting in few numbers.
