Neuvry is a very good spot for waterbirds, and also for local rarities. Gaivota-de-cabeça-preta and Guincho-comum breed in small numbers, as do Pato-de-bico-vermelho , Zarro-negrinha and Mergulhão-de-pescoço-preto. Garca-vaqueira, Garça-branca-grande and Garça-branca-pequena are all regular. Waders are quite common in stopover, especially Tringa sandpipers. Narceja-galega winters in the area.
Gaivota-pequena , Gaivina-de-faces-brancas, Gaivina-preta and Águia-pesqueira are regular. This also a good place for ducks in migration period. Among the recent rarities are Perna-verde-fino , Papa-ratos , Pato-de-cauda-afilada , Mergulhão-de-pescoço-ruivo , Pilrito de Temminck and Andorinha-do-mar-árctica.

The gravel pit is located directly north of the village of Neuvry. By car only (no train station around). You can go first to the western bird hide, and then walk along the eastern shore of the lake on the dirt road. Be careful, driving is forbidden on the dirt road around the lake, you're in a Natural Reserve, you may be fined. The circular walking route is about 4,5 km.
