Mont Caroux represents the eastern limit of the Espinouse mountains. There is a rich forestry area where you can have a chance to see Torcicolo, Felosa-poliglota, Felosa de Bonelli and Trepadeira-azul. There are also areas of heath which are home to Picanço-de-dorso-ruivo, Milhafre-preto and Grifo-comum. And look out for Águia-real. More than 10 pairs breed in the area. Although visible all year round, this large raptor preferably performs acrobatic courtship displays in January and February. Other interesting birds you can see in the area are Águia-cobreira, Melro-das-rochas, Melro-azul, Mocho-d'orelhas, Toutinegra-de-cabeça-preta Estrelinha-de-poupa and Cia. In winter you have a chance to see Trepadeira-dos-muros, Ferreirinha-alpina and Pardal-alpino in the area.
