During migration and winter the water bodies can host lots of ducks if they have not been flushed by fishermen or hunters, among which several dozens of Zarro-comum and Zarro-negrinha and several hundreds of Galeirão-comum . A rarity such as the Pato-fusco or Zarro-bastardo is always possible in winter. Still in winter but above all during October-November and March the wet grassland is a very good spot for Narceja-comum and Narceja-galega.
In summer typical breeders include Andorinha-do-mar-comum and Mergulhão-de-crista on the lake, Picanço-de-dorso-ruivo in the bushes or Petinha-dos-prados in the grassland.
In late summer and early autumn when water level drops the south-western water body can be very good for waders particularly Maçarico-bastardo or for a Cegonha-preta stopover. In spring when water level is higher, Gaivina-preta , Gaivina-de-faces-brancas or Gaivota-pequena are regularly seen foraging over water.
