The Rhine is used as wintering area by waterbirds such as Zarro-comum, Zarro-negrinha, and a few gulls. falcão-peregrino is often seen hunting or perched on the buildings in the industrial area nearby. Zarro-castanho and Merganso-grande can also be found. A few scarcities have been seen here, mostly in winter but also in migration period such as Corvo-marinho-pigmeu, Pato-de-cauda-afilada or Pato-fusco.
