Särkkäniemi Nature Reserve is a great spot for seeing waterfowl all around the year. Cisne-vulgar family can be seen around the area on a daily basis and Merganso-grande and Pato-real are common sightings as well. Pato-olho-d'ouro , Merganso-de-poupa , Zarro-negrinha , Mergulhão-de-crista , Ganso-de-faces-brancas , Cisne-bravo , Pato-trombeteiro and Eider-edredão are common birds especially during the warmer months. Garça-real likes to stop by the rocky points of the shore and Corvo-marinho-de-faces-brancas often dries its wings by the point too.
During shorebird migration season it's possible to see birds like Pilrito-comum forage for food in small groups by the rocky shores. The calls of Maçarico-bastardo , Ostraceiro and Maçarico-das-rochas are familiar sounds in the area during summer too. The lagoon bays provide shelter to shore birds and ducklings and are also great places to spot frogs in spring time. Felosa-musical , Estrelinha-de-poupa , Felosa-comum , Tentilhão-comum , Verdilhão-comum , Felosa-assobiadeira , Pisco-de-peito-ruivo and sometimes Papa-moscas-pequeno can be heard singing in the coastal meadow areas. During autumn migration some birders have heard the sounds of Chapim-de-bigode among the reeds too. The views to the sea open the possibility to see even wider variety of birds flying by from the more common Andorinha-do-mar-comum , Andorinha-do-mar-árctica , Gaivota-parda and Guincho-comum to Gaivina-de-bico-vermelho and Águia-rabalva. It's also possible to come across roe deer, grass snakes and lizards in the area.
