Damming at the bottom of Nakkebølle Fjord was completed in 1866-70, resulting in 61 hectares of meadow. Restored to nature in 2003 as a freshwater lake of 85 hectares, surrounded by 25 hectares of wet meadows. Otto Helms was the chief physician at Nakkebølle Sanatorium, He described the area in 3 articles in the Danish Ornithological Society's Journal 1917-19.
Águia-rabalva breed in the area and there are good chances for Guarda-rios-comum, Garça-real and Garça-branca-grande. Once you have observed the different ducks and geese in the lake (Zarro-negrinha, Merganso-pequeno, Merganso-grande), you can take a walk through the forest and listen and look for the small birds of the forest such as Trepadeira-do-bosque, Trepadeira-azul and Pica-pau-malhado-grande. There is also a small area of reed forest where you can see rouxinol-dos-caniços and Escrevedeira-dos-caniços.

From Åstrup follow the road signs to Nakkebølle. You can park in a small space for 4 cars. Press P on the map for directions. If the parking lot is full, there is also a smaller space further down the road. From the parking lot follow the archipelago path along the lake. If you want to explore further into the fjord, you can follow the path in the opposite direction up to Fjællebroen. See the link below to the archipelago path.
