Mjels Lake has been both drained and cultivated since the 1800s, but in 2006 it was restored as a lake. Birds quickly returned to the lake. There is a good path along the lake and and a couple of small platforms where you can get to the other side of the reeds. Among the birds you can encounter are Guarda-rios-comum, Pato-olho-d'ouro, Chapim-de-bigode, rouxinol-dos-caniços, Mergulhão-pequeno, Garça-branca-grande and Águia-rabalva.
