Descrição
Borreby Mose is a large area with bog and reedbeds. Around the bog are extensive meadows used for grazing. Despite attempts to drain and cultivate, today the site is protected under Natura 2000 and serves as a vital refuge for birds. The reedbeds host breeding Abetouro-comum, Tartaranhão-ruivo-dos-pauis, Chapim-de-bigode, Felosa-dos-juncos, rouxinol-dos-caniços and occasionally rarities like Felosa-unicolor and Rouxinol-grande-dos-caniços. The wet meadows, shallow pools and muddy edges attract many waders and meadow-birds like Maçarico-de-bico-direito, Combatente, Abibe-comum, Perna-vermelha-comum, Ostraceiro, Borrelho-grande-de-coleira, and Alfaiate.
During migration thousands of geese roost in the area, joined by ducks like Arrabio, Pato-trombeteiro, Marrequinha-comum and Zarro-negrinha. Winter brings Merganso-pequeno, Pato-olho-d'ouro, and Tartaranhão-azulado. A regular resident is Águia-rabalva. Less common birds that visit Borreby Mose include Gaivina-de-bico-vermelho and Falaropo-de-bico-fino. Every year rarities turn up in the area, especially during migration. For example Pilrito-peitoral and Cegonha-preta have been observed.
