In the winter period, this area is a popular resting place for large numbers of ducks. Tartaranhão-azulado is also on the job every year, just like the noisy Rouxinol-bravo. In the spring it is on the puddles near the river Ijzer a coming and going of passing waders. For species such as Maçarico-real, Narceja-comum , Maçarico-de-bico-direito , Abibe-comum , Perna-vermelha-comum , Maçarico-bastardo , Pássaro-bique-bique it is an important stopover on the way to the northern breeding areas. Other notable spring guests are Colhereiro , Garça-branca-pequena and Garça-branca-grande. In the varied area, birds such as Pisco-de-peito-azul and Alfaiate breed.
