The valley of Herkwinning is a mosaic of meadows, scrub and wet forests that meanders between agricultural areas. Because locally calcareous seepage - a kind of groundwater - surfaces, you will find various valuable vegetation here. Many shrubs also develop into large sedge vegetation, shrubs or reedlands. For example, the Felosa-palustre likes to make its nest here. Other birds you can see in the area include Felosa-das-figueiras, Rouxinol-comum, Pisco-de-peito-azul, rouxinol-dos-caniços, Chapim-rabilongo, Cuco-canoro, Papa-moscas-cinzento and Alvéola-cinzenta.

Omdat plaatselijk kalkrijke kwel - een soort grondwater - bovenkomt, vind je hier verschillende waardevolle vegetaties. Veel ruigtes ontwikkelen zich ook tot grote zeggevegetaties, moerasspirearuigtes of rietlanden. Bijvoorbeeld de Felosa-palustre maakt hier graag zijn nest. Vallei Herkwinning is located on the border between Borgloon and Tongeren. From Brussels: Take the E40 to exit 29 Waremme. In the area of Lantremange, continue on the N69 towards Tongeren. After 7.5 km turn left to Vechmaal. In Bommershoven you cross the Tongersesteenweg and enter the Herkerhofweg via the Harenstraat. Click on a P on the map for directions to a parking lot.
From Antwerp: Take the E313 towards Liège. Take exit 29 Hasselt-Oost. Continue on the N20 towards Tongeren until Bissemstraat. Turn right and drive all the way to the end of Bissemstraat. After 1 km, turn right onto Herkstraat and immediately take the left exit.
The circular walk shown on the map is approximately 2.5 km.

Nederlands: Vallei Herkwinning ligt op de grens tussen Borgloon en Tongeren. Vanuit Brussel: Neem de E40 tot afslag 29 Waremme. In de omgeving van Lantremange vervolg je de weg op de N69 richting Tongeren. Na 7,5 km sla je linksaf naar Vechmaal. In Bommershoven steek je de Tongersesteenweg over en kom je via de Harenstraat in de Herkerhofweg. Klik op een P in de kaart voor een routebeschrijving naar een parkeerplaats.
Vanuit Antwerpen: Neem de E313 richting Luik. Neem afslag 29 Hasselt-Oost. Vervolg je weg op de N20 richting Tongeren tot aan de Bissemstraat. Sla rechtsaf en rijd de Bissemstraat helemaal uit. Na 1 km sla je rechtsaf naar de Herkstraat en neem onmiddellijk de afslag links.
