De Straalmolen en Griesbroek is 17 hectares in size and is located in the municipality of Balen. This is a varied area in the valley of the Grote Nete where birds breed, recuperate during bird migration and hibernate. Some artificial nesting sites have been constructed in the dikes for Andorinha-das-barreiras and Guarda-rios-comum. Birds breeding in the areainclude Frango-d'água, Mergulhão-pequeno, Mergulhão-de-crista, Zarro-comum, Cisne-vulgar, Papa-amoras-comum, Pisco-de-peito-azul, Felosa-palustre, rouxinol-dos-caniços, Guarda-rios-comum, Escrevedeira-dos-caniços and Alvéola-cinzenta. In time, it is hoped to welcome Abetouro-comum as a breeding bird. In the area you can also observe Garça-real, Cegonha-branca and Garça-roxa when they are looking for food.

Nederlands: De Straalmolen en Griesbroek is 17 hectare groot en ligt in de gemeente Balen. Dit is een gevarieerd gebied in de vallei van de Grote Nete. Het bestaat uit grote waterpartijen, broekbossen en permanent historische graslanden. De voormalige viskweekvijvers zijn ingericht als vogelgebied. Het is de bedoeling om vogels de kans te geven om te broeden, te recupereren tijdens de vogeltrek en te overwinteren in alle rust. Er zijn enkele kunstmatige nestgelegenheden aangelegd in de dijken voor de oeverzwaluw en de ijsvogel.
Vogels die er nu al broeden zijn onder meer Frango-d'água, Mergulhão-pequeno, Mergulhão-de-crista, Zarro-comum, Cisne-vulgar, Papa-amoras-comum, Pisco-de-peito-azul, Felosa-palustre, rouxinol-dos-caniços, Guarda-rios-comum, Escrevedeira-dos-caniços en Alvéola-cinzenta. Griesbroek - Departure point Herberg 't Rustpunt (Sint Anneke 3, 2491 Olmen). From Mol, take the N18 (Molsesteenweg) in the direction of Balen. Continue straight on until you reach the Olmensebaan in the direction of Olmen. Enter it and drive straight on, turn left just before the canal Dessel-Kwaadmechelen and drive straight on to De Waterhoek. Click on a P in the map for directions to a parking lot. It is best to explore this area on foot. Waterproof boots are recommended for the walk in the Griesbroek.

Rijd rechtdoor, tot je aan de Olmensebaan richting Olmen komt. Sla deze in en rijd rechtdoor, sla net voor het kanaal Dessel-Kwaadmechelen links af en rijd rechtdoor tot aan De Waterhoek. Klik op een P in de kaart voor een routebeschrijving naar een parkeerplaats. Best kan je dit gebied te voet verkennen. Voor de wandeling in het Griesbroek zijn waterdichte laarzen aan te raden.
