Although the old beech forest Meetshovenbos is visited by many walkers and runners, it has some interesting bird life. In the spring you often hear the calls of Pica-pau-preto, Açor and Trepadeira-azul. During the winter periods it is worth keeping an eye on the groups of Tentilhão-comum. Thanks to the beechnuts, this area is also popular for Tentilhão-montês. The forest is gradually being replanted with tree species such as pedunculate oak, rowan, bird cherry, birch and spruce wood. Ideal trees for Felosa-comum and Toutinegra-de-barrette-preto. Among the other birds you can see here are Gralha-de-nuca-cinzenta, Tentilhão-comum, Pombo-torcaz, chapim-real, Gralha-preta, Chapim-azul, Trepadeira-azul, Pisco-de-peito-ruivo, Gaio-comum, Pica-pau-malhado-grande, Tordo-ruivo-comum and Carriça.

Nederlands: Het Meetshovenbos is een oud beukenbos bij Aarschot dat ideaal is voor de beginnende vogelaar. Ondanks dat het parkbos druk bezocht wordt door wandelaars en hardlopers, is hier toch wat vogelleven te vinden. In de lente hoor je hier vaak de roep van Pica-pau-preto, Açor en Trepadeira-azul. Tijdens de winterperiodes loont het om de groepjes Tentilhão-comum in het oog te houden. Dankzij de vruchten van beukenbomen is dit gebied ook in trek voor Tentilhão-montês.
Agentschap van Natuur en Bos voert geleidelijk aan beheerwerken in het kappen van Amerikaanse eik, Corsicaanse en Grove Den. Zo worden de historische venen terug open gemaakt. Bijkomend wordt het exoten bos geleidelijk aan beplant met soorten als zomereik, lijsterbes, vogelkers, berk en sporkehout. Ideale soorten voor Felosa-comum en Toutinegra-de-barrette-preto. De voornaamste soorten die je hier kunt zien zijn Gralha-de-nuca-cinzenta, Tentilhão-comum, Pombo-torcaz, chapim-real, Gralha-preta, Chapim-azul, Trepadeira-azul, Pisco-de-peito-ruivo, Gaio-comum, Pica-pau-malhado-grande, Tordo-ruivo-comum en Carriça.

The Meetshovenbos is located on the northwestern edge of the city of Aarschot. You can park at the various entrance gates or at the Wit Toreke restaurant. Be careful, the latter is only possible in the morning. The parking lot is reserved for customers from noon. Click on a P on the map for directions to a parking lot. Public transport: bus lines 530 and 532 stop near Meetshovenbos. The circular walk indicated on the map is about 3,5 km.

Nederlands: Het Meetshovenbos ligt aan de noordwestelijk rand van Aarschot. Parkeren kan je aan de verschillende toegangspoorten of aan het restaurant Wit Toreke. Opgepast, deze laatste kan enkel in de ochtend. Vanaf de middag is de parking voorbehouden voor klanten. Klik op een P in de kaart voor een routebeschrijving naar een parking. Opnebaar vervoer: de buslijnen 530 en 532 stoppen in de buurt van Meetshovenbos. De rondwandeling die is aangegeven op de kaart is ongeveer 3,5 km.
