Even the industrial/urban area in the north of this region harbours quite some good species in winter, like Piadeira, Frisada, Zarro-negrinha and Zarro-comum. They can be common near te sewage works, as do gulls Mergulhão-pequeno and Ganso-comum.
In recent years Abetouro-comum has become almost annual (often more then one) and some years Chapim-de-bigode turns up. There's a big breeding population of rouxinol-dos-caniços (>20 pairs) as do Rouxinol-bravo and Escrevedeira-dos-caniços in small numbers. In some years even Pisco-de-peito-azul breeds here.
The meadow areas further to the south, especially those along the railway hold most of the time waders in late winter and spring. Maçarico-de-bico-direito, Maçarico-bastardo, Pássaro-bique-bique, Combatente, Borrelho-pequeno-de-coleira (breeds some years), Pilrito-comum, Narceja-comum, Narceja-galega and others are seen annual. In winter this area often holds Petinha-ribeirinha. In wet years species as Marreco and Pato-trombeteiro can be breeding here. Irregular breeders are Escrevedeira-dos-caniços, Rouxinol-bravo and Cartaxo-comum.
The area more to the south can hold Guarda-rios-comum, Alvéola-cinzenta, Cartaxo-comum and the same species mentioned earlier, but chances on these are more remote.
