Descrição

The walk down from the carpark offers incredible views that are a perfect vantage point for spotting birds of prey. Once you have made the descent into the park, there are walking tracks along Jackson's Creek through re-vegetated bush. Often very quiet and peaceful, with benches to sit and watch for wildlife. Birds you can see include: Eastern Shrike-tit , Spotted Pardalote , Striated Pardalote , Rufous Whistler , Golden Whistler , Grey Fantail , Whistling Kite , Crimson Rosella, White-browed Scrubwren , Yellow Thornbill , Superb Fairywren and Little Pied Cormorant.

You can complete the short walks easily within a morning. The paths are very well maintained, with the first section completely paved. The descent into the park is very steep so keep this in mind, although it is a paved section. The rest of the walk is very easy and flat. It is usually coming back up the hill that is the challenge!

The descent into the park has very little shade, so be sunsmart! The rest of the park is very shaded though. :)

The last time I was here I spotted a Dusky Woodswallow and a Sacred Kingfisher (spring & summer visitor)!

Detalhes

Acesso

Organ Pipes National Park is best visited by car, as there is no public transport there unfortunately. You can get there from the Calder Freeway, taking the turn to the north to Organ Pipes Road. Parking is free and available with toilets at the top of the hill. Press P on the map for directions.

The complete walk around the park takes ~2 hours, but you can do one side only in less time.

Note: As this is a site of geological significance, there are sometimes school excursions if you go during school hours. I haven't had a problem, as the students are usually respectful, but if you're looking for a more peaceful experience definitely go first thing in the morning or on the weekend.
