Descrição
Mc Dermid Rock is a scenic granite outcrop in the equally scenic Great Western Woodlands. It is a 'go to' for Purple-gaped Honeyeater. The Rock sits in beautiful open eucalypt woodland with bluebush understory. Dense heath surrounds the base itself. It is prospective for a number of 'sought after' birds but particularly Purple-gaped Honeyeater. Shy Heathwren and Copperback Quail-thrush have also been recorded here.
Detalhes
Acesso
Mc Dermid Rock is situated approximately one km north of the Hyden Norseman Road. Access is only by vehicle. At the base of the Rock a good sized camping/parking area is furnished with a toilet. It is a very short walk through the heath to arrive at a marked loop track accessing the top of the Rock. This loop (although scenic) is not part of this Birdingplace walk as the Rock heights themselves are not favourable for birdlife generally. This (short) walk starts at the start of the loop track and simply follows the eastern base of the Rock until the birder arrives at thick scrub. (At this point, however, the marked loop track could be joined as the Rock slope is not so steep here).
