The artificial lakes are located in the center of Vanadzor at the confluence of the Vanadzor and Tandzut rivers. The lower lake is filled with water year-round, the middle one is a marshy area with thickets of shrubs and reeds. The upper "lake" has not been filled with water for a long time and now represents a field area. This combination of landscapes attracts birds, and throughout the year, you can spot Melro-d'água and Alvéola-cinzenta, some of the first insectivorous birds to appear in spring. The open space also allows for observing raptors in the sky – it is common to see buzzards, kites, harriers, and other raptors, such as Quebra-ossos.
