Opis
Cemetery Point Park sits at the edge of the shallows of the Gulf of Mexico. A 1200-foot (400 m) wooden boardwalk rises across mangrove and marsh, providing excellent opportunity for birdwatching. This short out-and-back hike through an area of tidal marsh is easy to follow and provides a great vantage point to see shorebirds, wading birds, herons and more. Among the birds you can encounter are Yellow-crowned Night-Heron, Clapper Rail, American Avocet, Willet, White Ibis, Brown Pelican, Osprey, Laughing Gull, Spotted Sandpiper and Magnificent Frigatebird cruising overhead during the summer months. Black Skimmer may be present as well.
After walking the boardwalk, don't forget to check out Cemetery Point Park with beautiful old pines, cedars and oaks for warblers, woodpeckers, mockingbirds, owls and doves. The tree canopy in winter often has a lot of warblers, with Palm Warbler, Pine Warbler, Common Yellowthroat and Yellow-rumped Warbler being the most common. Great Horned Owl is present all year round.
