Bergafjärden consists of a large coastal meadow in the middle and higher hill/mountainous areas to the north and south. Most of the coastal meadow has been turned into a large beach for tourists but there are parts untouched in the northern part of the bay. Over the years 207 species have been recorded. During winter ice-free periods are often birdrich although the shallow waters often makes it frozen during winters. łabędź niemy, łabędź krzykliwy, bielaczek, krzyżówka, nurogęś, gągoł, mewa srebrzysta, mewa pospolita and czernica are the common seafowl during this period. Among other birds gęgawa, czapla siwa, srokosz, and bielik are uncommon. Wintering woodpeckers like dzięcioł zielonosiwy, dzięcioł zielony, and dzięcioł trójpalczasty can be found most years. Some years markaczka, szlachar, lodówka, uhla, głowienka and czapla siwa also winter. In the forest most of common forest birds can be found. During invasions łuskowiec and krzyżodziób modrzewiowy can be found.
During spring most of the previously mentioned waterfowl become more common and in March many geese arrive. Larger amounts of gęgawa (100 at most), and bernikla kanadyjska (100 at most) can be found. Often along it smaller amounts of bernikla białolica and sometimes ges zbozowa, gęś białoczelna, and even gęś mała (only very rarley). Among water fowl, łabędź krzykliwy (at most 300), gągoł (at most 300), and cyraneczka (at most 90) along with smaller amounts of uhla, edredon, szlachar, nurogęś, bielaczek, krzyżówka, Płaskonos and świstun. Uncommon ducks in the area are krakwa, rożeniec, and cyranka.
During spring many waders can be found. Most common among these are krwawodziób, łęczak, kwokacz, sieweczka rzeczna, słonka, brodziec piskliwy, ostrygojad, samotnik, kulik wielki, sieweczka obrożna and batalion. More rarely szlamnik, kulik mniejszy, siewka złota brodziec śniady, biegus zmienny and biegus mały can be found. During perfect weather even biegus rdzawy, piaskowiec, biegus rdzawy, biegus malutki, biegus płaskodzioby or biegus krzywodzioby can be found although these are more common during autumn (while still being very rare).
During this period common terns (rybitwa popielata, rybitwa rzeczna, rybitwa wielkodzioba), common gulls (mewa srebrzysta, mewa siodłata, mewa żółtonoga, mewa pospolita and śmieszka) and sometimes the rare mewa mała is found. At bergafjärden notable breeding birds are perkoz dwuczuby (some years, rare), edredon, uhla, bernikla białolica, pustułka (zwyczajna), perkoz rogaty, rybitwa wielkodzioba, rybitwa popielata and rybitwa rzeczna. During early autumn large amounts of waterfowl, geese and waders can be found although these are often more numerous than in spring and arctic waders like biegus płaskodzioby are more common during autumn than spring. Most waders are found during august.
