The Santa Margarida volcano is of great geological, botanical and, of course, ornithological interest. It is a very well-preserved extinct volcano located in the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park. The entire volcanic cone is covered with lush forests of beech, chestnut, holm and oak trees, and the crater is a meadow with a small Romanesque hermitage in the centre. The climb to the crater is a gentle slope accessible to most people.

El volcán de Santa Margarida tiene un gran interés geológico, botánico y, por supuesto, ornitológico. Se trata de un volcán extinguido muy bien conservado y situado en el Parque Natural de la Zona Volcánica de la Garrotxa. Todo el cono volcánico está cubierto de frondosos bosques de hayas, castaños, encinas y robles, y el cráter es una pradera con una pequeña ermita románica en el centro. La subida hasta el cráter es una pendiente suave accesible para la mayoría de las personas.

To get to the Santa Margarida volcano, the best way is to travel by car from Girona to Olot on the C-66, and from Olot following the signs for Santa Pau. In Santa Pau there are several car parks for visiting the volcano. The closest to the crater is the Santa Margarida car park, at the base of the volcano, which has a large area to leave the car. Press P on the map for directions to the car park. From the latter, a path goes into the forest up to the crater. The best way to get there is on foot, although it is also possible by mountain bike. The total distance of the walk out and back is about 3 km.

Espagnol: Para llegar al Volcán, lo más adecuado es viajar en coche desde Girona hasta Olot por la C-66, y de Olot siguiendo las indicaciones hacia Santa Pau. En Santa Pau hay varios aparcamientos habilitados para visitar el volcán. El más cercano al cráter es el aparcamiento de Santa Margarida, en la propia base dle volcán, que cuenta con una amplia zona para dejar el coche. Desde éste último, un camino se adentra en el bosque subiendo hacia el cráter. La mejor manera de subir es a pie, aunque también se puede con bicicleta de montaña.
