High-water refuge Westerse Veld is a grassland just outside the village of Oost-Vlieland, which is located directly on the Wadden Sea. A very easily accessible place where many birds often come to rest during high tide and especially when the wind blows from the west - northwest . You can encounter groups of bernikla obrożna, kamusznik, kulik wielki, krwawodziób and ostrygojad. And because this place is intensively birded due to its accessible location near the village, nice and somewhat more rare species are often discovered, such as in the autumn of 2022, for example białorzytka płowa.

Nederlands: Hoogwatervluchtplaats Westerse Veld is een grasland net buiten het dorp Oost-Vlieland dat direct aan de Waddenzee ligt. Een heel gemakkelijk toegankelijke plek waar met hoog water en wind uit de west - noordwest vaak veel vogels te overtijen. Hier verblijven groepen bernikla obrożna, kamusznik, kulik wielki, krwawodziób en ostrygojad. En omdat deze plek vanwege de toegankelijke ligging bij het dorp intensief bevogeld wordt, worden er vaak ook leuke en wat meer zeldzame soorten ontdekt zoals in het najaar van 2022 bijvoorbeeld een białorzytka płowa.

Vlieland can be reached by ferry from Harlingen. Several boats leave per day and the crossing takes about an hour and a half (see link for ferry tickets below). Het Westerse Veld is located on the edge of the village of Oost-Vlieland. You can walk there from the harbor via the dike or cycle via the main street (both 1 km). It is located directly on the road and is easily visible from the road.

Nederlands: Het Westerse Veld ligt aan de rand van het dorp Oost-Vlieland. Vanuit de haven loop je er via de dijk of fiets je er via de hoofdstraat zo naar toe (allebei 1 km). Het ligt direct aan de weg en is vanaf de weg goed te overzien.
