Opis

This viewpoint on the Westerduinen is the place to see a flying słonka on Texel. At dusk the males fly around here, looking for a female on the ground. With their characteristic grunting and squeaking it is more than worth a chilly evening in the second weekend of May. Several lelek often buzz in the background.

Nederlands: Dit uitzichtpunt op de Westerduinen is een hoge duin die aan de noordkant toegankelijk is via een trap. Aan de zuidkant via een rolstoelpad. Bovenop zijn er wat bankjes om te zitten. Dit is dé plek om op Texel een langsvliegende słonka te zien. In de schemering vliegen de mannetjes hier rond, op zoek naar een vrouwtje op de grond. Met hun kenmerkende geknor en gepiep is het een frisse avond in het tweede weekend van mei meer dan waard. Op de achtergrond snorren vaak meerdere lelek.

This high dune is accessible from the north via a staircase. On the south side via a wheelchair path. At the top there are some benches to rest. Parking is possible at the bottom of the northern staircase or at the Turfveld inn on the south-east side.

Nederlands: Dit klimduin is toegankelijk uit het noorden via een trap. Aan de zuidkant via een rolstoel-pad. Bovengekomen zijn er wat bankjes om te rusten. Parkeren kan onder aan de noordelijke trap of bij de uitspanning Turfveld aan de zuid-oost kant.

The second weekend of May is considered the best weekend for birdwatching on the Wadden Sea island of Texel. Winter guests have not yet left and the first summer guests have already arrived.
