Opis
The 7 km circular walk around the Kooisplek is the most scenic dune walk on Vlieland. You pass the high dune of Kikkerbult where you have a phenomenal view of both the North Sea and the Wadden Sea and can oversee the entire area. In winter, autumn and spring many large and small temporary ponds form in the area. These ponds attract many birds, especially the large pond at the edge of the forest (see the star on the map). When it's also bird migration time in spring and autumn, it's even better for a bird walk. In the summer, the walk is still scenically beautiful, but the area is less interesting from a birdwatching perspective: many ponds have dried up then and you see far fewer birds. Among the birds you can encounter in the area are depending on the season błotniak stawowy, błotniak zbożowy, świerszczak, kląskawka, makolągwa, piegża, cierniówka, białorzytka, kszyk, bekasik, kwokacz, samotnik, drozd obrożny, cyraneczka and ohar.

Nederlands: De rondwandeling van 7 km rondom de Kooisplek is de mooiste duinwandeling op Vlieland. Je passeert het hoge duin van de Kikkerbult waar je een geweldig uitzicht hebt op zowel de Noordzee als de Waddenzee en het hele gebied kunt overzien. In de winter, herfst en lente vormen zich veel grote en kleine tijdelijke plassen in het gebied. Die plassen trekken veel vogels aan, met name de grote plas aan de rand van het bos (zie de ster op de kaart). Als het dan ook nog vogeltrektijd is, is het helemaal een geweldig gebied voor een vogelwandeling. In de zomer is de wandeling nog steeds landschappelijk mooi, maar vanuit vogelkijk-perspectief is het gebied dan minder interessant: veel plassen zijn dan opgedroogd en je ziet je veel minder vogels. Vogels die je in het gebied kunt tegenkomen zijn afhankelijk van het seizoen błotniak stawowy, błotniak zbożowy, świerszczak, kląskawka, makolągwa, piegża, cierniówka, białorzytka, kszyk, bekasik, kwokacz, samotnik, drozd obrożny, cyraneczka en ohar.

Vlieland can be reached by ferry from Harlingen. Several boats leave per day and the crossing takes about an hour and a half (see link for ferry tickets below). From the village of Oost-Vlieland you can quickly walk or cycle to the starting point of the walk (marked with a P on the map). There is a sign that indicates the start of the walk and you can park your bike there. The walk of about 7 km is marked with blue signs and runs partly on narrow dune paths and partly on cycle paths. There is one short steep climb to the top of the high dune of Kikkerbult. On the north side of the walk, the marked path also briefly turns off through the dunes to the sea and allows you to climb some dunes there. But you can also skip that part and just walk straight ahead (see the star on the map for the short cut). In winter and spring, some parts of the trail can be wet, so make sure you wear waterproof footwear.

Nederlands: Vanuit het dorp Oost-Vlieland loop of fiets je snel naar het beginpunt van de wandeling (gemarkeerd met een P op de kaart). Er staat een bord die het begin van de wandeling aangeeft en daar kun je eventueel je fiets neerzetten. De wandeling van ongeveer 7 km is gemarkeerd met blauwe bordjes en loopt deels over smalle duinpaden en deels over fietspaden. Er is één korte steile klim naar de top van Kikkerbult. Aan de noordkant van de wandeling slaat het gemarkeerde pad ook nog even af door de duinen naar zee en laat je daar wat duinen beklimmen. Maar dat deel kun je ook overslaan en gewoon rechtdoor lopen (zie voor de short cut de ster op de kaart). In winter en voorjaar kunnen sommige delen van het pad nat zijn, dus zorg dat je waterdicht schoeisel draagt.
