The view from this artificial hill in National Park Lauwersmeer is fantastic. The Blikplaatgat is in front of the viewing point, behind it is the Zomerhuisbos (forest). During the breeding season, many songbirds can be seen and heard in this wet poplar forest, including wilga (zwyczajna), turkawka and kukułka. From the reeds you can often hear the singing of podróżniczek, brzęczka, świerszczak, łozówka and wąsatka. bąk also breeds here. Other species that show themselves are warzęcha, kormoran, krakwa, cyraneczka, zimorodek and bielik. Also various species of geese and ducks.

Nederlands: Een kijkheuvel in nationaal park Lauwersmeer aan het open water van een slenk met kwelder, rietvelden en bos. Het uitzicht vanaf deze kunstmatige heuvel is fantastisch. Voor het kijkpunt ligt het Blikplaatgat, erachter bevindt zich het Zomerhuisbos. In het broedseizoen zijn in dit natte populierenbos veel zangvogels te zien en te horen, waaronder wielewaal, zomertortel en koekoek. Vanuit het riet is vaak het gezang van blauwborst, snor, sprinkhaanrietzanger, bosrietzanger en baardmannetje te horen. Ook de roerdomp broedt hier. Andere soorten die zich er laten zien zijn lepelaar, aalscholver, krakeend, wintertaling, ijsvogel en zeearend en diverse soorten ganzen en eenden.

Accessible by following the Kwelderweg (the road between Dokkumer Nieuwe Zijlen and Zoutkamp). Take the exit Rijsdammen (sign "Natuurkampeergebied De Pomp"). There is a parking lot at the end of this road. Follow the marked hiking route "Vogel route" (white posts). After approximately 1 kilometer you will arrive at the viewing hill.

Nederlands: Bereikbaar door de Kwelderweg (de weg tussen Dokkumer Nieuwe Zijlen en Zoutkamp) te volgen. U neemt de afslag Rijsdammen ( bord ‘Natuurkampeerterrein De Pomp’). Aan het eind van deze weg is een parkeerplaats. Volg de gemarkeerde wandelroute ‘Vogelroute’ (witte paaltjes). Na circa 1 kilometer komt u bij de uitzichtheuvel.
