Two kilometers by bike from Oosterend, at the beginning of the Boschplaat, you will find the Jan Thijssenduin. This dune top is located between oak and birch groves and towers above all other dunes. There is a path that leads up and there you overlook almost the entire island of Terschelling, so you have a great view. You can see the Brandaris lighthouse, the tip of the Boschplaat, the ships that sail around the island, the neighboring island of Ameland and many birds. The Jan Thijssenduin is an excellent place to watch migratory birds. Birds you can see here include błotniak stawowy, mewa żółtonoga, gajówka, słowik rdzawy, kląskawka, piegża, cierniówka and świergotek łąkowy.

Nederlands: Het Jan Thijssenduin is het mooiste uitzichtpunt op de Boschplaat. Deze duintop ligt op twee kilometer fietsen vanaf Oosterend, in een klein gebiedje met eiken- en berkenbosjes. Het Jan Thijssenduin torent boven alle andere duinen uit. Er loopt een het pad naar boven en daar overzie je zowat het gehele eiland Terschelling en heb je dus een geweldig uitzicht. Je ziet de vuurtoren Brandaris, het puntje van de Boschplaat, de schepen die om het eiland varen, buureiland Ameland en veel vogels. Het Jan Thijssenduin is een uitstekende plek om trekvogels te kijken, maar ook voor kleine zangvogels die zich in de bosjes en het struweel rondom de top ophouden. Vogels die je hier kunt zien zijn onder meer błotniak stawowy, mewa żółtonoga, gajówka, słowik rdzawy, kląskawka, piegża, cierniówka and świergotek łąkowy.

The best way to get there is by bike or on foot, for example from the village of Oosterend. The dune top itself can only be reached on foot. The area is not accessible for cars.
