The marina of the island of Schiermonnikoog partly extends into the Wadden Sea. On the pier you are between the mudflats of the Wadden Sea. These mudflats that lie between the marina and the western salt marsh of Het Rif are superb with beautiful current channels and rich mudflats that are chock full of birds during low tide. Birds can be found here all year round. Also during high tide when many waders and seagulls sit on the jetties and pier. In the marina itself you can sometimes find edredon or in winter nurzyk, szlachar or gągoł. Always walk all the way to the end of the pier, where you have a beautiful view of a large current channel where warzęcha and kulik wielki often forage.
In addition to the mudflats, there is another nice spot here that you should always check out. At the beginning of the path to the marina there is an old dumping ground where surprising birds are often found. Here you can find birds such as białorzytka, potrzos and świergotek łąkowy. But it is even better in winter when sometimes rzepołuch, śnieguła or górniczek are seen and very occasionally rare vagrants.

Nederlands: De jachthaven van Schiermonnikoog steekt voor een deel de Waddenzee in en daardoor sta je hier midden tussen de wadplaten van de Waddenzee. Het wad dat tussen de jachthaven en de westelijke kwelder van Het Rif ligt, is prachtig met mooie stroomgeulen en rijke modderplaten die tjokvol vogels zitten tijdens laagwater. Het hele jaar door zijn hier vogels te vinden. Ook tijdens hoogwater als veel steltlopers en meeuwen op de steigers en de pier zitten. In de haven zelf kun je soms edredon aantreffen of in de winter nurzyk, szlachar of gągoł. Loop ook altijd even helemaal naar het einde van de havenpier, waar je mooi uitzicht hebt op een grote stroomgeul waar vaak warzęcha en kulik wielki foerageren.
Behalve het wad ligt hier nog een ander mooi plekje wat je altijd even uit moet checken. Aan het begin van het pad naar de jachthaven ligt een oud stortterreintje (Zie ster op de kaart) waar zich vaak verrassende vogels ophouden. Het is een rommelig gebiedje waar je vogels als białorzytka, potrzos en świergotek łąkowy kunt aantreffen, maar nog leuker is het in de winter omdat er dan soms rzepołuch, śnieguła en górniczek worden gezien en heel af en toe zeldzame dwaalgasten.

The marina is located 1 km south of the village of Schiermonnikoog and you can quickly walk or cycle there from the village. At the marina restaurant 'Wad Anders' you can not only have something to eat and drink, but due to its elevated location on a hill you also have a beautiful view from the terrace over the mudflats of the Wadden Sea. The edge of the terrace is also a great place to set up your spotting scope. The best time with the most birds is with the rising tide when the birds slowly but surely come closer to the marina. Nederlands: De jachthaven ligt 1 km ten zuiden van het dorp Schiermonnikoog en je loopt of fietst er vanuit het dorp snel naartoe. Bij Havenpaviljoen 'Wad Anders' kun je niet alleen wat eten en drinken, maar door de verhoogde ligging op een heuvel heb je er vanaf het terras ook een prachtig uitzicht over het wad. De rand van het terras is ook een prima plek om je telescoop op te stellen. Beste tijd met de meeste vogels is met opkomend tij als de vogels langzaam maar zeker steeds dichter bij de haven komen.
