Opis
The area around Malta International Airport is at its best in spring, particularly with north-west winds. On good days there can be good numbers of harriers, mostly błotniak stawowy but also błotniak stepowy (early-mid spring) and błotniak łąkowy (mid-late spring). The site can also be good for pustułeczka and kobczyk (late spring). In practice any migrating species can be seen from the area since it is open, such as flocks of herons, waders, żołna and kraska. skowrończyk krótkopalcowy arrive in spring and remain to breed in small numbers. Other passerines include hirundines, including jaskółka rudawa, and pipits, including świergotek rdzawogardły. In late autumn, the site is also one of the best places in Malta to see siewka złota and czajka. Several rarities have been seen here over the years.
