The Salina dei Monaci of Torre Colimena is just beyond the border of the province of Lecce, along the Ionian coast of Puglia, entering the territory of Taranto, Salina dei Monaci is a small oasis surrounded by two ecosystems of extraordinary charm: the Mediterranean scrub, typical of the Ionian coast of Salento, and the high sand dunes that separate it from the sea. Its main feature is the very small salt lake where, during high tide, the sea water flows along a small channel. An optimal environment for many migratory birds and therefore an ideal destination for birdwatchers. During the spring it is possible to admire several migratory birds that choose the salt pan as a resting area to find nourishment. Among the birds you can observe in the area are ohar, flaming różowy, szczudłak, szablodziób, sieweczka morska, biegus zmienny, biegus krzywodzioby, rybitwa białoczelna, mewa sródziemnomorska LRcd, mewa mała, pokrzewka aksamitna, chwastówka zwyczajna, dzierlatka (zwyczajna).

La sua caratteristica principale è il piccolissimo lago salato dove, durante l’alta marea, l’acqua del mare scorre lungo un piccolo canale. Un’ambiente ottimale per molti uccelli migratori e quindi meta ideale per gli amanti del birdwatching. Durante la primavera è possibile ammirare diversi uccelli migratori che scelgono la salina come area di sosta per trovare nutrimento.

Easily accessible along the provincial road SP122, Salina dei Monaci is located just before the hamlet of Torre Colimena. You can walk along the edges of the lagoon and there is also a small observation platform.
