The Tonkuhle lake not only has a beautiful circular path with a well-located viewing platform, but is also very popular with anglers. Many birds gather here in all seasons. You can observe krzyżówka, perkoz dwuczuby, łyska and kokoszka (zwyczajna) all year round. In winter, many kormoran populate the lake and during the breeding season you can also find gęgawa. If you're lucky, you can also spot zimorodek.
Many songbirds such as bogatka (zwyczajna), modraszka and pełzacz ogrodowy can also be seen here regularly. If you are interested, you can combine your visit with the nearby ponds Blesshuhnteich or Niklasteich, some of which are also home to several species of birds. On warm summer evenings, many bats can also be seen around Tonkuhle lake.

The Tonkuhle lake is located in the southwest of the city of Oldenburg. Some bus stops, such as "Friedhof Eversten" or "Bodenburgallee", are within walking distance of the lake. Parking is usually free on the side of Hundsmühler Straße. The best way to do the 1 km circular path around the lake is on foot, but it is also no problem with a stroller, wheelchair or similar. The only problem is that some of the paths can be a bit muddy.
