Opis
Polder Glies is located on the edge of nature reserve Sellstedter See and Ochsentriftmoor/Wildes Moor. After agricultural use had been abandoned, the formerly heavily drained polder has been rewetted and serves as a flood reservoir. Relocation of the dike and the rewetting of the site created a biotope with a shallow water area of 54 hectares, of which an area of about 28 hectares forms a permanent still water. In addition to the shallow water zones, the polder is characterized by extensive reedbeds and wet grasslands. It is a habitat for waterfowl, waders and meadow birds and an important resting and wintering area for migratory birds. For example rokitniczka, podróżniczek, kropiatka, cyranka, bielik, rybołów, żuraw and zimorodek can be found here. On the edge of the nature reserve, between the polder and Lake Sellstedt, there is an observation tower from which the site can be viewed.
