Opis
The nutrient-rich stagnant waters of Bienener Althrein are characterised by extensive zones of floating leaves and reeds, and small areas of floodplain forest are found along the banks. The area is characteristic of the breeding birds of the Lower Rhine, as was the case for several decades. In addition to a large number of breeding birds, the nature reserve also offers many resting limicoles and, in winter, huge groups of geese and white-tailed eagle.

NieDodatkowe informacje
In the nature reserve, the only rybitwa czarna colony in Northwest-Germany breeds on artificial nesting aids. The rybitwa czarna had also disappeared at the beginning of the 1990s in the Bienener Altrhein. With the help of a species protection project, the Naturschutzzentrum im Kreis Kleve e.V. has succeeded in reintroducing this endangered species.
There is probably no need to mention that exemplary behaviour is required. In this way, the breeding birds, but also the residents should not be disturbed.
