Site Naturel Protégé du Méjean has a mosaic of environments (wet meadows, woods, reedbeds, salt meadows) between land and water, allowing a good diversity of observations of passerines, waders and seabirds. Along the trails there is more info on the salty environment, the coastal marshes (200 ha) and the coastal ponds of the region. A haven of nature and facilities facilitating observation, near Montpellier, reminiscent of the Camargue.
A dozen bocian biały nests at the entrance to the site. Among the other birds you can observe are szablodziób, szczudłak, flaming różowy, perkozek, wodnik (zwyczajny), ohar, cyraneczka, Płaskonos, krwawodziób, kszyk, błotniak stawowy, different terns and gulls and many more. The facilities allow you to enjoy the site even without a telescope, which of course remains useful.

Français: Site naturel protégé au bord de l'étang du Méjean, sentiers aménagés et observatoires ornithologiques. Mosaïque de milieux (prairies humides, boisements, roselières, prés salés, sansouïre) entre terre et eau, permettant une bonne diversité d'observations, passereaux, limicoles, et oiseaux marins. Grand intérêt des sentiers d'interprétation pour comprendre le milieu salé, les marais littoraux (200 ha) et les étangs côtiers de la région. Un havre de nature et des aménagements facilitant l'observation, à proximité de Montpellier, rappelant la Camargue.
Une dizaine de nids de cigognes à l'entrée du site en fait l'espèce emblématique. Mais aussi : Avocette élégante, Échasse blanche, Flamant rose, Grèbe castagneux, Talève sultane, Râle d'eau, Tadorne de Belon, Sarcelle d'hiver, Canard souchet, Chevaliers divers, Bécassine des marais, Busard des roseaux, Mouettes, Sternes et Goélands. Les aménagements permettent du profiter du site même sans longue-vue, qui reste bien sûr utile.

Parking near the 'Maison de la nature', 500 m from the entrance to the site. Click on the P in the map for directions. Public transport: from Montpellier, tram line 3. The “Lattes-centre” terminus stop is 2 km from Méjean. Note that most of the site closed all year round on Mondays and after 5 p.m., 6 p.m. or 8 p.m. depending on the period (see website and timetables by trail). The path leading along two observatories is accessible every day and at any time and is about 2,5 km long.

L’arrêt-terminus « Lattes-centre » se trouve à 2 km du Méjean. Majorité du site fermée toute l'année le lundi et après 17h, 18h ou 20h selon les périodes (cf. site web et horaires par sentier). Un sentier avec deux observatoires est accessible tous les jours et à toute heure.
