Opis
The Seudre estuary is home to a large portion of the population of the nanmetum subspecies of the podróżniczek, which is endemic to the French Atlantic coast. With a bit of luck it can be observed here (other good spots are the Pointe de la Coubre, Marais de Brouage and RNMO). Some breeding birds of the Moulin des Loges reserve are pliszka żółta, wierzbówka zwyczajna, dymówka, szczudłak and more.
Nearby warzęcha and different heron species, such as ślepowron are breeding, as well as rybitwa rzeczna and kaniuk. Besides from that you can observe cyranka and several limicole species during migration, such as batalion, rycyk (keep your eyes open for the islandica subspecies), biegus malutki etc. (see the list below). The open landscape also allows good observations of migrating passerines, like pokląskwa, muchołówka żałobna, pleszka or białorzytka, as well as krętogłów. On the nearby fields you can observe góropatwa czerwona, siewka złota (only during winter), czajka and potrzeszcz. Note that in end of August the hunt for waders and ducks begins, which makes good observations harder.
In the summer 2025 a biegus arktyczny and a brodziec pławny were stationary on the side of the road for a while. I was also able to observe a czapla nadobna x czapla rafowa hybrid several times in the area.
