Opis
Marais Salants de Batz-sur-mer is an area with a mosaic of salt pans separated by clay mudwalls fed with water by channels. The salt works date back to Roman times. The multiple basins attracts many birds. Many species of birds can come to feed, rest and seek shelter. Among the birds you can encounter are warzęcha, sieweczka obrożna, błotniak stawowy, czapla nadobna, szablodziób, szczudłak, krwawodziób, rycyk and ohar.

Batz-sur-mer can easily be reached by train, the salt marshes are on walking distance from the train station. If you arrive by car there are several parkings. For a parking click on the P in the map to get directions. The circular route (8,5 km) you see on the map below meanders between the salt lakes and marshes. Good option is to do the route on bicycle. Tours of the salt marshes are also organized by horse-drawn carriage.
