Opis

Col de Sarasset is located on a very small mountain road. The pass can concentrate interesting flows of passerines and large soaring birds during spring migration. Some birds, in fact, do not pass through the Col de l'Escrinet (see separate entry of this migration viewpoint on Birdingplaces) and instead pass over the secondary passes further northwest, including this one. In addition to migrating birds, interesting birds such as ortolan, pokrzewka kasztanowata, potrzeszcz and błotniak łąkowy can be observed.

Français: Petit Col sur une route de montagne, entre Privas et Mézilhac. Col secondaire, assez intéressant pour la migration prénuptiale. La route est magnifique. Ce col secondaire, situé sur une très petite route de montagne, peut concentrer des flux intéressants de passereaux et de grands voiliers pendant la saison de migration de printemps. Certains oiseaux, en effet, ne passent pas par le col de l'escrinet et passent plutôt sur les cols secondaires plus au nord ouest, dont ce col-ci. En plus des oiseaux en migration, des nicheurs/locauc intéressants peuvent être observés. Bruant ortolan, Fauvette pitchou, Bruant proyer et fou, et le fameux Busard cendré.

Access to Col de Sarasset is from Mézilhac or Privas. The road is very narrow and winding. For cycling enthusiasts, this is a scenic route not to be missed. A circular hiking route is available from the Col de l'Escrinet discovery trail.

Français: L'accès se fait depuis Mézilhac ou bien depuis Privas. La route est très petite et serpente beaucoup. Pour les amateur.ices de vélo, c'est un itinéraire pittoresque à ne pas rater. Un accès randonnée pédestre en boucle est possible depuis le sentier de découverte du Col de l'Escrinet (Balisage petite randonnée).

The local history is quite tense between birdwatchers and hunters, as is the case at many migration sites. This site is not officially monitored. Before setting up with a spotting scope, check that you are not on private land.
