The area provides good mixture of habitats, including coastal lake with extensive reed-beds, sandy beach and dunes, arable lands and stony steppe grasslands, small forested and bushy areas and villages. Durankulak Lake is the best place in Bulgaria, where there is some chance in winter time to see drop and strepet.

From Durankulak village drive North and 300 m after the village turn East toward the Camping Kosmos on the beach (3 km from Durankulak). You can park there and walk along the beach and the lake. The bernikla rdzawoszyja can be observed from the roads around Durankulak, depending the specific flight corridor between the roosting site in the lake and the arable fields around.
