Opis
Lake Richmond is a perennial freshwater lake (approx 1 km x 0.6 km) that is perched about one metre above sea level, and is up to 15 metres deep. The lake evolved from a marine embayment and historically contained saline water. Lake Richmond is an important ecosystem for thrombolites and waterbirds.
Lake Richmond is excellent for walking, bird watching and nature observation. A walk trail borders part of the lake, and leads to a boardwalk on the northern shore. A viewing platform is sited on the eastern shore.
Key birds are Australian Pelican, Pied Stilt and Whistling Kite.

Dostęp
Lake Richmond lies in the city of Rockinham. The lake can be accessed at multiple places around its perimeter but, surprisingly, a dedicated parking area has not been provided. However, street parking is available adjacent to the viewing platform. Click on the P for directions. Note that the western part of this walk, next to a main road, is not particularly interesting and can be omitted if desired. The circular walk around the lake is about 3 km.
