A small, compact public park of primarily local interest, well suited to wheelchair-bound birders with good quality paths.
Walker Park is a largely open public park with mown grass, scattered trees, and a few shrub areas. It has a good network of surfaced paths suited to wheelchair users. The adjacent cemetery is wilder and provides more cover for birds. The site is of interest as the first place in Northumberland to be colonised by feral Halsbåndparakitt, and still remains the 'GHQ' for the regional population. Other birds are mainly common resident species, with few migrant species present, mainly wintering birds like Rødvingetrost. It is under-watched, and could turn up an odd surprise.
Access on foot or by bicycle from the local area, or bus (32, 32A) from elsewhere. Limited parking is avalable for cars on local streets alongside. Click on a P in the map for directions.
