400 Hectare estate with orangery, woods, marsh, reedbeds, willow scrub, lakes and river. Site of former stately home of the Cowper family.
Panshanger Park has a varied environment. Many interesting plants and insects. Among the birds you can spot in the area are woodpeckers, Trekryper, Spettmeis, Løvsanger, Cettisanger, Sivsanger, Rørsanger, Vannrikse, Rapphøne, Rødhøne, Fiskeørn (on migration), Vipe and gulls in winter.
The car park is one mile west of Hertford on the St Albans road A414. Turn right at the roundabout into Thieves Lane. Look for the white direction signs. Bus stop in Thieves Lane. Hertford train station 3/4 mile. the suggested walking route is about 6 km/4 miles.
