Limestone hill of 283 metres with golf course and ancient hillfort remnants. Calcareous soil hosts a range of flora and insects. Good migration watchpoint.
From September to November, and in April/May Painswick hill is good for seeing migrants, especially early morning. Hundreds of Ringdue, Heilo, Bokfink, Stær, Gråtrost, Rødvingetrost and Nøtteskrike can pass through. Also Bjørkefink, Grønnsisik, Kjernebiter, Gulspurv, Lerkefalk, Vandrefalk, Dvergfalk, Ringtrost, Glente, Spurvehauk and Myrhauk possible. For report on insect life see link below.
4 miles south of Gloucester on B4073 Painswick road. M5 junction 12. 66 bus from Cheltenham stops nearby. Be aware of golfers, dont obstruct play or become an accidental target. The circular walking route indicated on the map is about 4,5 km.
