Hill that is a refuge for birds during migration and where you have great views in all directions. Good place to see Ringtrost in autumn.
Cissbury Ring is an 84.2-hectare biological Site of Special Scientific Interest north of Worthing in West Sussex. It is owned by the National Trust and is a monument for its Neolithic flint mine and Iron Age hillfort. Cissbury Ring is the largest hill fort in Sussex, the second largest in England and one of the largest in Europe overall. The grasslands and scrub areas provide important habitats for birds. With breathtaking views in every direction and the feeling of being on top of the world Cissbury Ring is the perfect place to experience the wide-open spaces of the South Downs. In autumn the hill fort becomes a refuelling stop for migrating birds. Look out for the Ringtrost, each October they arrive, to feed on the berry-rich trees. Other birds you can see at Cissbury Ring are Lerkefalk, Spurvehauk, Munk, Fasan, Tårnseiler, Gråmåke, Glente, Flaggspett, Grønnspett, Ravn, Løvmeis, Sanglerke, Møller, Tornsanger, Svartstrupe, Steinskvett, Heipiplerke, Dompap, Gulspurv, Gråfluesnapper and Rødstjert.
Parking is available. If you are not a member of the National Trust, there is a small fee. There are many trails in the area. On the map you see a circular trail of about 4 km long. The high paths are very exposed so wrap up warm in the colder months.
On a clear day, you can see Isle of Wight, Selsey, Chichester Cathedral and the Spinnaker Tower.
