Site of Special Scientific Interest with oxbow lakes, sandy banks and shingle spits along the river Usk.
The River Usk is one of the largest rivers in Wales. It acts as an important wildlife corridor, migration route and breeding area for many birds. In the area between Bryn to Llanfihangel you can follow a public footpath that passes a Site of Special Scientific Interest along the river Usk. It has a Sandsvale colony. Migrant and resident waders. Glente, occasional Vandrefalk. Other birds you can encounter are Tjeld, Enkeltbekkasin, Silkehegre, Isfugl, Laksand, Vintererle and Strandsnipe.
You can park at the village hall or nearby roadside verge in Bryn village or at the Llanfihangel Gobion church. Click on a P in the map to get directions. The walking route marked on the map is 2,3 km one way.
